In the third verse, there are three parts: first, explaining the first line; next, from "The places of unwholesome deeds should be swiftly abandoned" downward, explaining the second and third lines. All unwholesome fruits are called "evil"; the non-beneficial, wrong ascetic practices of the non-Buddhists are called "causes without purpose," because one is able to cast them far away. Third, from "If regarding the superior four noble truths, etc." downward, explaining the fourth line. In the summary meaning: first hearing the true Dharma and reflecting on it correctly is the first line; practicing the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma is the second and third lines; attaining the fruit of supreme victory is the fourth line.
