9.84

論解無間道能斷，不言加行道者，《對法》明金剛喻定并取加行道者，非真實義。若斷種子，唯無間道；若制伏種子，加行道亦有此義。彼論約制伏種子義，故金剛喻定亦取加行道；此論據斷種子難，故唯無間道。

Where the treatise explains that the uninterrupted path can sever, but does not speak of the preparatory path: the Abhidharma[-samuccaya] clarifies that the diamond-like concentration also encompasses the preparatory path, which is not the real meaning. If it is severing seeds, it is solely the uninterrupted path; if it is subduing seeds, the preparatory path also possesses this meaning. That treatise is based on the meaning of subduing seeds, and therefore the diamond-like concentration also encompasses the preparatory path; the present treatise is based on the difficulty of severing seeds, and therefore it is solely the uninterrupted path.
