Where the treatise explains the second, detachment from desire, saying: “Question: Among these, what kinds of pudgalas in this very life ... arouse preparatory application, but not the supramundane path? There are four kinds of persons; the fourth person refers to all bodhisattvas who delight in realizing great bodhi in a future life, not in the present life”: this intention clarifies that bodhisattvas [attain] the Buddha path in a future life, not in the present life. Although the mundane path can arouse preparatory application in the present life, it is only to mature sentient beings within saṃsāra, for the sake of preparatory application on the mundane path. If this person directs their mind toward the future Buddha fruit, they arouse preparatory application on the supramundane path. Here it is according to the former meaning.
