純有樂有想者，在前三靜慮乃至廣說。純有苦有想者，在地獄中。有苦有樂有想者，在畜生、鬼界、人及欲天。無苦無樂有想者，在第四定以上，尋伺、等至皆容得起。

Those who have purely pleasant feeling and have ideation are in the first three dhyānas, and so on at length. Those who have purely painful feeling and have ideation are in the hells. Those who have both painful and pleasant feeling and have ideation are among animals, ghosts, humans, and desire-realm gods. Those who have neither painful nor pleasant feeling and have ideation are in the fourth dhyāna and above. They can all arise from vitarka-vicāra and meditative attainment.
