The Commentary states: This is the fourth major section, concluding the discussion. Seeds of all dharmas, whether tainted or untainted, each comprise two classes: originally existent and newly perfumed, because this is logically faultless and does not contradict the sutras. Having entered the path of seeing, they distinctly perfume and produce seeds because their activity is untainted. Prior to the bhūmis, they merely cause previous seeds to increase, because the power of tainted active manifestations is weak, so they cannot separately cause untainted seeds to arise. Here it is merely said that through hearing and perfuming, originally existent seeds gradually increase and flourish; all Dharma masters say that Dharmapāla held that newly produced seeds arise in the stages of liberation and so forth, while Candragomin held that they merely cause seeds to increase, thus maintaining a difference; this logic is also not so. The present text is standard; one must collate and read it against the preceding and subsequent passages in Yogācāra fascicle 5 and the two versions of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha, chapter 2, for its logic to become clear.
