The Commentary states: A general conclusion: among the capable cognizers, the seven transforming consciousnesses, mental factors, and so forth are that which is capable of perfuming. If they are object-aspects, what dharma presents an obstacle? Namely, because the eighth consciousness is cognized by the sixth and seventh consciousnesses, it perfumes as an object-aspect. What division serves as that which is capable of perfuming? Only the self-substance division, just as the self-substance division alone receives perfuming, because it is the substance of the seeing-aspect.
