The Commentary states: Below are the assertions of various masters, first a question and then an answer; this is the question. Although knowing that the abode is the objective referent of the fundamental consciousness, 'whose ripening consciousness transforms into this aspect?' asks about the active transformer. The Yogācārabhūmi and other texts state that there is no distinction regarding the external receptacle; with respect to the higher realms and so forth, whose objective referent is it? Therefore, it is now asked: Is it ordinary beings or noble ones? Is it this destiny or another destiny? Is it one's own realm or another realm? Is it one's own stage or another stage? Is it transformed solely by oneself, or also transformed by others? Below, Bodhisattva Dharmapāla provisionally sets forth three positions; the first agrees with Candragarbha.
