The Commentary states: Just as aloeswood, musk, garlic, scallions, and the like cannot receive perfuming; and also like a person of equanimous conduct whose nature is broad and tolerant, and can therefore accept matters. If one is clever or of an evil disposition, one cannot accommodate anything. Moreover, wholesome nature does not merely oppose what is unwholesome; it also opposes its own wholesome kind, just as aloeswood does not receive the scent of sandalwood; the same applies to evil and the like, and hence they cannot be perfumed. But the neutral nature does not oppose the wholesome or the unwholesome, just as an equanimous person does not oppose circumstances. This also excludes the class of consciousness that is wholesome and so forth from receiving perfuming; within the seventh consciousness, none are the perfumed. This is the same as what is explained later, only as unobstructed-neutral.
