The Commentary states: This reveals that the name manas applies generally to the anāsrava. Although the transformation of the six vijñānas to obtain manas is called the seventh, it is not actually the seventh, because it does not extend to the pure. Otherwise, it would contradict the sūtras. In the initial mind of the first bhūmi, the wisdom of equality associated with the seventh vijñāna is induced and generated by the preceding mind-moment of the supreme worldly dharmas, the contemplation of the two emptinesses, and the sāsrava mind; therefore the seventh should take the sixth as its basis. Only at this time must it be generated by being induced by the sixth; thus by analogy to other times when the wisdom of equality arises, the meaning should also be like this.
