The Commentary states: Second, regarding those who have attained samādhi, Asvabhāva says: it refers to the Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and the like. What is called 'practice' refers to association with the objective realm of emptiness, or association with the objective supports of the four noble truths. 'Contemplation of phenomena' refers to the subsequent wonderful wisdom that contemplates the true Dharma such as sūtras: contemplating aspects such as impermanence upon a single object, numerous marks appear. That is to say, when contemplating a single atom, the marks of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and non-self all become manifest; there cannot be multiple entities upon a single essence. Could the attributes not be the essence? If they are one with the essence, the essence should not be one; if they are different from the essence, the essence should not be impermanent and so forth. Because the object is not real, it is merely transformed by mind; therefore, contemplating in accordance with the mind, numerous marks appear. Such is this purport: the object transforms in accordance with wisdom regarding reality (tattva).
