十因中第八現行望諸法能為幾因：一、觀待；二、攝受。作用、依處相攝受故；三、同事；四、不相違。非言說故，非潤、未潤生後果故，非引發、定異，不親引他生，非定分別生，故不相違。思可知。種識望諸法能為幾因？可為觀待、牽引、生起、攝受、引發、定異、同事、不相違合八因，唯無隨說、相違二種。

Among the ten causes, when the active eighth [consciousness] is viewed in relation to all phenomena, how many causes can it serve as? 1. Dependence; 2. Reception, because functioning and bases receive each other; 3. Co-action; 4. Non-hindrance. Because it is not conventional expression; because it does not produce subsequent fruits through moistening or non-moistening; because it is not initiation or specific determination, not directly initiating the arising of others, and not producing determined discriminations; therefore it is non-hindrance. By reflection this can be known. When the seed-consciousness is viewed in relation to all phenomena, how many causes can it serve as? It can serve as dependence, attraction, origination, reception, initiation, specific determination, co-action, and non-hindrance—eight causes in total; it only lacks the two kinds: expression and hindrance.
