The opening passage of Chapter Sixty-Two speaks of five kinds of attachment conditioning higher [states]: namely, having attained meditative attainment and emerged from it, grasping it as pure, delightful, pleasurable, lovable, agreeable, and relishing it through recollection. Or not having attained it, or having attained it, by the sovereign power of future relishing, striving and rejoicing to give rise to relishing. Or having attained it, grasping it as pure, delightful, and so on up to the extensive explanation of manifest relishing. If one has emerged from the absorption, relishing can arise; if right in the absorption, there is no relishing. 'Relishing' means generating pervasive greedy attachment therein. The subsequent text speaks of two kinds: defiled [attachment] in one who has not attained absorption, meaning wishing to be born above and deeply generating greedy attachment; undefiled love conditioning higher absorption, meaning just seeking to generate detachment from desire. This is extensively explained as in Chapter Sixty-Two.
