Fascicle twelve of the Yogācārabhūmi says, regarding the attainment of cessation: "Because one has previously well cultivated and purified one's mind, one does not conceptualize the aspects and characteristics of conditioned phenomena; one is able to enter this attainment and able to emerge from the attainment; because of extremely extensive cultivation, one can spontaneously enter and emerge. When emerging from the attainment of cessation, one experiences two kinds of contacts: first, the unmoving; second, the nothingness; third, the signless. When emerging from the attainment, it is mostly by way of three objects that one emerges from the attainment: first, by an existing object; second, by an object-object; third, by an object of cessation. In this order, one experiences three kinds of contacts. When emerging from the attainment having the existing object as intentional object, there is no pride of self disturbing one's mind, saying 'this is I,' up to conceiving that 'in the future I shall exist,' and so forth; therefore, one experiences the unmoving contact. When emerging from the attainment having the object-object as intentional object, because there is no possession by greed, anger, or delusion, one definitely experiences the contact of nothingness. When emerging from the attainment having the object of cessation as intentional object, because there is no thought toward any signs, and because one takes the signless realm as intentional object, it is said that one experiences the signless contact." The meaning here is that upon emerging from the attainment one takes three objects as intentional objects: the "existing object" means the conditioned five aggregates, namely that taking the sign of non-conceptualization as support, the mind entered the attainment, and now emerges. The "object of cessation" means that taking the sign of extinction as support, one entered into the attainment, and now emerges. Above these two, there is no possession by the three afflictions; hence one experiences the contact of nothingness, which is called "taking the object-object as intentional object." What is induced afterward is indefinite: it follows that the emerging mind is not identical with the entering mind, because their cognitive forms differ. Alternatively, taking the six dusts as intentional objects to emerge from the attainment is collectively named "object-object"; this is strictly the object of an object. This describes emerging from the attainment spontaneously and with mastery; if one emerges from the attainment when not yet master, one takes objective spheres as intentional objects. Although no text states this, it does not go beyond these three.
