The Prajñāpāramitā disparages bodhisattvas to prevent them from entering the cessation attainment (nirodha-samāpatti), whereas the Yogācāra says that four kinds of persons do not establish the ālaya[-vijñāna], and those who are non-retrogressing also enter it; how is this not contradictory? In according with these three explanations, [bodhisattvas of] the eighth stage do not enter it; the first master takes this as proof, thus not allowing those who proceed directly to attain the eighth stage, because the Buddha rebuked it. Therefore, those who make a detour are called 'non-retrogressing'.
