論云：「勿此亦非實、德、業性」者，作有法自相相違因破。云：非實、德、業性者。意云：非實、德等同異生；以異實等故；如德業。德、業異實，不是同異性故。

Regarding the śāstra saying: 'Lest this too would not be the nature of substance, quality, and action': it refutes them by formulating a reason contradictory to the substratum's own nature. Saying 'is not the nature of substance, quality, and action' means: it is not produced from the generic-and-specific (sāmānya-viśeṣa) of substance, quality, and so forth; because of being different from substance and so forth; like quality and action. Quality and action are different from substance, and are not the nature of generic-and-specific.
