2.79

三、妄謂種增失者。云無熏種增過，於此大乘一切種子，不問新舊皆因熏發，乃至不由熏發，種子體用，倍倍增廣，若無熏倍增，即違此理者，正解用增，不取體增，妄同前失。若論功能，無表之體增不由熏，但由作法，作法事了，暢本邀期，發身、語思所熏之種，故成無表，功能倍增，故《彌勒所問經論》第三云：「如施主施物，依受用功德力故，雖施主異心，而依本心念，修相續體細細轉勝，以轉勝故，於未來世，而得成就多福德果。」乃至云：「我依於心身業、口業，有善惡功德，依本心作不失本心，有相續體，顛狂、睡等，常得增長。」既云顛狂睡等常得增長，豈有能熏方增長耶？

Third is the fault of falsely asserting the increase of seeds. [The opponent] says that there is the fault of seeds increasing without perfuming, [arguing that] in this Mahāyāna, all seeds, whether new or old, are brought forth because of perfuming, and so forth, down to [the claim that] if the substance and function of seeds were to double and increase without being brought forth by perfuming, then doubling without perfuming would contradict this principle. [We reply:] The correct explanation is an increase of function; it does not take an increase of substance, so it is falsely equated with the preceding fault. If one discusses functional capacity, the increase of the avijñapti's substance does not come from perfuming; it is solely due to the ritual performance. Once the ritual action is completed, carrying out the original pledge, it brings forth the seeds perfumed by the volition of body and speech; hence it constitutes avijñapti, and its functional capacity doubles and increases. Therefore, the third fascicle of the Maitreyaparipṛcchā-śāstra states: "Just as a donor gives an object, relying on the power of the merit of its utilization, even if the donor has a different mind, yet relying on the original mindfulness, the continuum-substance of cultivation gradually becomes superior; because it becomes superior, in future lives they achieve many meritorious fruits." And it further says: "Relying on the bodily karma and vocal karma of the mind, there are wholesome and unwholesome merits; acting in reliance on the original mind without losing the original mind, there is a continuum-substance, which constantly increases even in madness, sleep, and the like." Since it says that it constantly increases even during madness, sleep, and the like, how could it only increase when there is an active perfumer?
