4.87

釋曰：父母不淨是識託處，說名為生。緣此不淨謂為己有而生貪愛，或緣當生有果起愛故得潤生。於中有中滅者，此若不滅無生有故。於母胎中等者，謂此滅時於母胎中有異熟識與其赤白同一安危，令相和雜成羯羅藍。

The exposition states: The mother and father's impurities are the place where the consciousness relies, which is called 'birth'. Taking these impurities as its object, it regards them as its own and gives rise to greed and attachment; or taking the retribution of future birth-existence as its object, it gives rise to attachment, and therefore it is able to moisten birth. 'Ceases in the intermediate state': if this did not cease, there would be no birth-existence. 'In the mother's womb and so on' means that when this ceases, in the mother's womb there is the retribution-consciousness sharing the same safety and danger with the red and white [fluids], causing them to blend into the kalala.
