5.496

有義：簡薩婆多欲疑唯憂，故顯宗〈二十七〉云：何緣二疑俱不決定，而上得與喜、樂相應，非欲界疑與喜俱起，以諸煩惱在離欲地，雖不決定，亦不憂滅，雖壞疑網無癡情怡，如在人間求得所愛，雖多勞倦而生樂想。《疏》說上界不如欲疑有喜受者。欲，似不得此中文意，上地何故不與喜俱？

There is an opinion that eliminates the Sarvāstivāda view that doubt in desire is solely grief. Thus Fascicle 27 of the Xianzong lun says: For what reason are both kinds of doubt indecisive, yet the higher [realms] can associate with joy and pleasure, while doubt in the desire realm does not arise together with joy? Because afflictions in stages detached from desire, although indecisive, do not perish with grief; although breaking through the net of doubt, there is no delusion and their feelings are at ease, just as when in the human realm one seeks and obtains what is loved, though there is much weariness, a perception of pleasure arises. The Commentary says that the higher realms are not like the doubt of desire which has joyful feeling; [such a view] seems not to grasp the intent of the text here: why would the higher stages not coexist with joy?
