Relying on the Sarvāstivāda doctrine, the twelfth fascicle of the Nyāyānusāra states that it arises throughout both the desire and form realms. Within the form realm there are two explanations: one says it is only in the lower three dhyānas, not in the fourth, so that cause and effect are not in extreme proximity; another says it is also in the fourth dhyāna, excluding the heaven of non-conception, because having already been born in that heaven one experiences its result. The Abhidharmakośa is identical. In fascicle 152 of the Mahāvibhāṣā there are three different explanations: one says only human beings in the desire realm, because their minds are keen and have the power of instruction. The latter two explanations are identical to the two meanings regarding the form realm in the Nyāyānusāra; what the Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya says is identical to the first master's explanation in the Mahāvibhāṣā.
