Another interpretation: 'Intended' runs through from top to bottom. The words 'intended according to oneself' eliminate the first three theses as not being according to one's own intention; only the fourth thesis is what the mind intends. The words 'intended as' eliminate pseudo-theses and the like, for although they could be further established at a later time, they are not what is intended to be established at this time. 'Its nature as that which is to be established' eliminates genuine reasons and examples from being called theses: although establishing their own meaning and serving as that which establishes, they are already established beforehand and not what is being established now; what is established now in substance and meaning is called the thesis. If one follows this latter interpretation, although it differs from the Nyāyamukha, its elimination of both genuine and pseudo-forms is concise and complete.
