Question: "Why do the reason and example not have 'intended according to oneself', while the thesis alone has it?" Answer: "The thesis involves contradiction and dispute between the two parties, so it requires 'according to oneself' to specify it; the reason and example are mutually accepted, hence there is no 'according to oneself'. The reason and example, as in a shared inference (ubhayānumāna), must first be mutually accepted before they can constitute the proof; thus they have neither the fallacy of universal acceptance nor that of traditional reception. They are called reason and example only when stated in words; they are not said to have implied qualifications, so they have no fallacy of implication. In one's own and the other's inferences, the words also contain qualifiers, stating 'accepted' or 'asserted'; because one disregards [school tenets] accordingly, 'according to oneself' is not stated for the reason and example."
