問下，二、問答釋妨，三：初、問也。末那者，具云訖利瑟吒耶末那，此云染污，意謂與四惑相應，故云染污。恒審思量故云意，即第七也。問意可知。

From 'Question' below: second, questions and answers resolving objections, in which there are three: first, the question. 'Manas': fully called kliṣṭa-manas; here translated as 'defiled', meaning that it is associated with the four afflictions, hence called defiled. 'Constantly examining and deliberating' is called manas, which is the seventh [consciousness]. The intention of the question is understandable.
