19.59

若離等者，故前說善知識緣中，須教授善知識要知邪正，以差之毫釐，失之千里，夫於善友豈合辜恩？故《法句經》中重重顯讚。然修行禪定不易其人，欲具諳其門，須遍覽諸教，唯天台三種止觀明諸禪修證行相，廣在彼文。今略依初學禪觀明邪正發相：

Regarding "If free from, etc.": Therefore, in the preceding discussion of the conditions of good friends, a good friend who instructs must know the deviating from the correct; because an error by a hair's breadth leads to a loss of a thousand leagues, how could one fail to repay the kindness of a good friend? Therefore in the *Dharmapada* there is repeated praise. However, practicing dhyāna concentration is not easy for a person; if one wishes to be fully versed in its doors, one must read widely across the teachings. Only the three kinds of calming and contemplation of Tiantai explain the marks of cultivation and realization of the various dhyānas, which are detailed in those texts. Now, relying briefly on beginners learning dhyāna contemplation, the manifestations of the deviating and the correct are explained:
