染法依無明有。譬如迷方謂東為西，此之迷謂從來不與定方相應也。如來藏既本無染，則人我執便是染法，不能證會如來藏明矣。

Defiled dharmas exist relying on ignorance. It is like being disoriented about directions and taking east for west: this disorientation has never been associated with a fixed direction. Since the tathāgatagarbha is originally free from defilement, the attachment to a personal self is simply a defiled dharma, and it is obvious that it cannot realize the tathāgatagarbha.
