Next, discussing according to practice: As taught in the Bodhisattvabhūmi, in the lineages and resolve-conduct one cultivates minor practice, which has interruptions, is indeterminate, and what is attained admits of retrogression. Because the arising of practice is narrow, it is called minor; being unable to practice constantly, it is described as having interruptions; because the mind of practice is not firm, it is called indeterminate; and encountering conditions and losing it, it is said to admit of retrogression. From joy up to the wisdom of dependent origination, one cultivates vast practice, which is uninterrupted, determinate, and what is attained does not retrogress. In each of these abodes, one practice is equipped with all practices, hence it is called vast; acting constantly without ceasing, it is called uninterrupted; the mind of practice being firm, it is termed determinate; and conditions being unable to destroy it, it is named non-retrogression. From having activity and development up to the supreme [abode], one cultivates immeasurable practice, which is uninterrupted, determinate, and what is attained does not retrogress. In these abodes, one is able in all practices to possess everything completely, hence they are called immeasurable practice. The rest, such as uninterrupted, are fully as explained before. That Tathāgata abode accomplishes the immeasurable, uninterrupted, determinate, and non-retrogressing fruit. (This concludes the fourth portal.)
