20.16

次第八門約對十眼共相收攝。十眼如彼《華嚴》中說：一是肉眼，見一切色。二是天眼，見諸眾生死此生彼。三是慧眼，見一切眾生諸根差別。四是法眼，見一切法真實之相，謂見諸法第一義相。五是佛眼，見佛十力。六是智眼，分別了知一切種法。七是明眼，謂見一切諸佛光明。八出生死眼，見涅槃法。九無礙眼，見一切法無有障礙。十是普眼，謂見法界平等法門。十中初一是前肉眼；亦兼天眼，見細遠色是天眼故。第二天眼是前天眼。第三慧眼、第五佛眼、第六智眼、第七明眼、第八出生死眼、第九無礙眼，此之六種是前法眼。第四法眼是前慧眼，見真諦故。第十普眼是前佛眼，佛眼普見平等真法，故名普眼。五眼之義，辨之略爾。

Next, the eighth section subsumes them mutually against the ten eyes. The ten eyes are as taught in the Avataṃsaka: first is the flesh eye, seeing all forms; second is the divine eye, seeing sentient beings dying here and being born there; third is the wisdom eye, seeing the differences in all faculties of sentient beings; fourth is the Dharma eye, seeing the true mark of all dharmas, namely seeing the ultimate mark of all dharmas; fifth is the Buddha eye, seeing the Buddha's ten powers; sixth is the knowledge eye, differentiating and understanding all types of dharmas; seventh is the luminous eye, namely seeing the radiance of all Buddhas; eighth is the eye that transcends birth and death, seeing the unconditioned nirvāṇa dharmas; ninth is the unhindered eye, seeing all dharmas without obstruction; tenth is the universal eye, namely seeing the impartial Dharma-gate of the dharmadhātu. Among the ten, the first is the aforementioned flesh eye; it also includes the divine eye, because seeing subtle and distant forms is the divine eye. The second, the divine eye, is the aforementioned divine eye. The third (the wisdom eye), fifth (the Buddha eye), sixth (the knowledge eye), seventh (the luminous eye), eighth (the eye that transcends birth and death), and ninth (the unhindered eye)—these six kinds are the aforementioned Dharma eye. The fourth, the Dharma eye, is the aforementioned wisdom eye, because it sees the ultimate truth. The tenth, the universal eye, is the aforementioned Buddha eye, for the Buddha eye universally sees the impartial true Dharma, hence it is named the universal eye.
