Next, explaining the five fruits in relation to pure causes. Among pure causes, excluding the contrary cause, the remaining nine causes can produce all five fruits. The conventional cause obtains the sovereign fruit. The cause of possessing obtains all five fruits: bringing about the subsequent from the preceding can produce the supportive fruit; the faculties such as faith each producing what they do is the sovereign fruit; a person being able to cultivate and arouse [them] is the virile fruit; being able to attain nirvāṇa is the fruit of liberation. In the Hīnayāna Dharma, the four minds such as heat are the Hīnayāna nature, and because this nature is sāsrava, it obtains retribution in the form realm, which is called the retributive fruit. In the Mahāyāna Dharma, untainted [wisdom] that conditions and illuminates obtains transformational retribution, which is called the retributive fruit. The planting cause also obtains five fruits, as explained under possessing. The production cause as one kind can obtain three fruits: bringing about what is of the same category obtains the supportive fruit; bringing about what is of a different category obtains the sovereign fruit; the Hīnayāna lineage obtaining mortal retribution and Mahāyāna anāsrava obtaining transformational retribution is its retributive fruit. The embracing cause obtains two: conditions such as approaching good friends and listening to the Dharma obtain the sovereign fruit; being cultivated and aroused by a person obtains the virile fruit. The nourishing cause obtains four: bringing about what is of the same category can obtain the supportive fruit; faith and the like giving rise to one another obtains the sovereign fruit; ultimately attaining nirvāṇa is called the fruit of liberation; giving rise to transformational retribution is called obtaining the retributive fruit. The self-seed cause also obtains four fruits, the same as the nourishing cause. The co-working cause can obtain five fruits, the same as the preceding [causes] from possessing down to self-seed, because it generally embraces them as co-working. The contrary cause, with respect to falling back from the path, is the sovereign fruit. Because it is not a retributive cause, it has no retributive fruit.
