Next, explaining their mutual causal arising with respect to the eight false conceptualizations. Within these eight, they are briefly subsumed under three, and broadly divided into five. As for the three: the first three form one, the middle two form one, and the last three form one. The first three are the root; relying on these three conceptualizations, self and belonging to self arise; and relying on self and belonging to self, the latter three arise. As for the five: the first three are each taken as one, the middle two as one, and the last three as one. Among these five, the false conceptualization of intrinsic nature is the fundamental root; relying on this, the false conceptualization of differentiation arises, which means grasping differentiating marks within the apprehended dharmas of intrinsic nature. Hence the treatise says: "Upon the basis of intrinsic nature, the false conceptualization of differentiation arises." Relying on this differentiation, the false conceptualization of appropriation and accumulation arises, which means grasping the function of accumulation and combination within the apprehended differentiated dharmas. Relying on this function of accumulation and combination, self and belonging to self arise; relying on self and belonging to self, pleasant recollection, unpleasant recollection, and that which is contrary to both arise. Because self is set against what belongs to it, there arise the differences of agreeable, disagreeable, and neutral objective realms; hence arise the three kinds of conceptualizations such as pleasant recollection. (This concludes the second section.)
