The wuwu year was the bingwu year, the eighth year of Hongshi. From "translated the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa" downward: it means that Master Kumārajīva translated while also lecturing, and the author of the treatise took part in the translation and listened. In the leisure between receiving his instruction, he then categorized, linked, and recorded the established words of Master Kumārajīva to comment upon the single sutra; this is an expression of modesty. The master's preface says: "Because of my dullness and shortcomings, I was fortunate to attend the lectures. Although my thoughts lacked the ability to plumb the profound, I roughly grasped the meaning of the text, and thus following what I heard, I made a commentary for it, briefly recording his established words, transmitting without inventing." From "Although the phrasing" downward: this is modest. "Has an authentic origin" means he personally received it from Master Kumārajīva. From "at your leisure" downward: the Yao edition reads, "Please examine and deliberate, and take a look," which is very coherent.
