弟子事師當有五事：一者當敬歎、二者當念其恩、三者所教隨之、四者思念不厭、五者於後當稱譽之。師教弟子亦有五事：一當令疾知、二當令勝他弟子、三欲令知不忘、四諸疑難悉為解之、五欲令弟子智勝師。

For a disciple serving a teacher there should be five things: first, they must revere and praise him; second, they must remember his kindness; third, they must follow what he teaches; fourth, they must think of him without weariness; fifth, afterwards they must laud his renown. For a teacher instructing a disciple there are also five things: first, he should enable him to learn quickly; second, he should enable him to surpass other disciples; third, he should wish him to retain what he learns without forgetting; fourth, he must resolve all his doubts and difficulties; fifth, he should wish the disciple's wisdom to surpass the teacher's.
