一切種愛語，六種、七種。言六種者：一於應聽法開聽愛語、二應制法遮制、三開示諸法法門、四開示無倒法相、五開示無倒訓釋諸法言詞、六開示無倒法句品類差別。七種者：一慰喻愛語；二慶悅；三於他有情一切資具少希欲中，一切所作及以正至少希欲中，廣恣愛語；四安愍種種驚怖；五如理宣說所攝；六為欲令他出不善處安住善處，正見聞疑舉呵；七請他有力饒益愛語。

Affectionate speech of all sorts has six kinds and seven kinds. The six kinds are: (1) affectionate speech that permits listening to dharmas that should be heard; (2) prohibiting dharmas that should be prohibited; (3) disclosing the Dharma-gates of dharmas; (4) disclosing the unperverted characteristics of dharmas; (5) disclosing unperverted etymological explanations of the words of dharmas; (6) disclosing the unperverted variety and differentiation of the sentences and categories of dharmas. The seven kinds are: (1) consoling affectionate speech; (2) congratulatory [speech]; (3) affectionate speech of broad indulgence regarding another sentient being's few desires in all material requisites, and their few desires in all actions and correct attainment; (4) calming and showing pity for various terrors; (5) [speech] subsumed under expounding in accordance with reason; (6) in order to cause another to leave unwholesome states and abide in wholesome states, reproving and scolding based on what has been directly seen, heard, or suspected; (7) affectionate speech of requesting another who has the capacity to bring benefit.
