3.75

第四復次為攝大乘四種因故，度唯有六：一不染、二極敬、三不退、四無分別。修行施時，於財不染，無顧戀故。受持戒時，於諸學處，起極敬故。行忍進時二不退，忍於眾生非眾生所作苦，得不退故。進於行善時，得不退故。行禪定般若時，此二無分別，止觀平等攝故。

Fourth, the pāramitās are only six in order to encompass the four causes of the Mahāyāna: first, non-defilement; second, supreme reverence; third, non-regression; fourth, non-discrimination. When cultivating dāna, one is not defiled by wealth, because one has no longing attachment. When receiving and upholding śīla, one gives rise to supreme reverence toward all the śikṣāpadas. When practicing kṣānti and vīrya, these two are non-regression: in kṣānti, one attains non-regression regarding the suffering caused by sentient and non-sentient beings; in vīrya, one attains non-regression when practicing the good. When practicing dhyāna and prajñā, these two are non-discrimination, because śamatha and vipaśyanā are equally gathered.
