3.98

八、此世他世樂施者，略有九相：財有三，一妙淨如法物而行惠施、二調伏慳悋垢而行惠施、三調伏積藏垢而行惠施；無畏有三，一拔濟師子虎狼等畏、二拔濟王賊畏、三拔濟水火等畏。法施有三，一無倒說法、二稱理說法、三勸修學處。如是九相能令眾生此他世樂，財、無畏此世，法施他世。

Eighth, giving that brings happiness in this and future lives, briefly has nine characteristics. For material giving there are three: first, practicing giving with fine, pure, and lawful goods; second, practicing giving having subdued the stain of stinginess; third, practicing giving having subdued the stain of hoarding. For the giving of fearlessness there are three: first, rescuing from the fear of lions, tigers, wolves, and the like; second, rescuing from the fear of kings and thieves; third, rescuing from the fear of water, fire, and the like. For the giving of Dharma there are three: first, preaching the Dharma without error; second, preaching the Dharma in accordance with the principle; third, encouraging the cultivation of the precepts. These nine characteristics can bring happiness in this and future lives to sentient beings: material giving and fearlessness bring it in this life; the giving of Dharma brings it in future lives.
