三、所明差別。以彼一乘非是界內先許三車，是故界外四衢道中授諸子時，皆云非本所望。是故經云「是時諸子各乘大車，得未曾有，非本所望。」亦不可說非本所望言但約二乘，以經不揀故，聖言無失故。良以門內所許今皆無得，露地牛車本非悕冀，故今得之，言非本所望也。

Third, the distinction in what is clarified. Because that One Vehicle is not the three carts previously promised inside the realm, therefore when bestowing them on the children at the crossroads outside the realm, all say it is 'not what was originally expected.' Therefore the sūtra states: 'At that time, the children each rode the great cart, obtaining what they had never had before, not what was originally expected.' Nor can it be said that the phrase 'not what was originally expected' refers only to the two vehicles, because the sūtra makes no distinction, and holy words do not err. Truly, because none obtain what was promised inside the gate, and the bullock cart in the open ground was not what was originally hoped for, therefore when now obtaining it, it is said to be 'not what was originally expected.'
