四者，戒為四乘，亦有三種：一謂一乘、三乘為四，此則開一異三，合二聲聞故也。二謂一乘、三乘、小乘、人天為四，此總開意也。三謂三乘、人天為四，準上可知。

Fourth, dividing into four vehicles also has three kinds: First, taking the One Vehicle and the Three Vehicles to make four; this sets out the one as distinct from the three, and combines the two śrāvakas. Second, taking the One Vehicle, the Three Vehicles, the Hīnayāna, and humans and devas to make four; this is the intention of total division. Third, taking the Three Vehicles and humans and devas to make four, which can be understood by analogy with the above.
