Sixth, the benefit of eradicating hindrances means that, relying on this universal gate, one severance is also all severances. For example, after the previously mentioned Tuṣita devaputra attained the ten grounds, from each of his pore-openings he manifested clouds of wondrous incense and flowers equal to the realm of sentient beings to make offerings to Rocana Buddha. After scattering the incense and flowers, when all Tathāgatas were seen within each flower, those incense clouds universally perfumed sentient beings in worlds numbering as the subtle atoms of immeasurable Buddha-lands; those who received the incense experienced joy in body and mind, all their sinful karmic obstacles were eradicated, and within and without form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, the five hundred afflictions of each as well as the eighty-four thousand afflictions were all entirely extinguished. Those sentient beings were fully endowed with diverse sovereign masteries of pure fragrance. In explanation: the former hell-born devaputra not only personally attained the ten grounds suddenly, but furthermore through the incense perfume from his pores caused so many sentient beings to suddenly eradicate such immeasurable afflictions; this is entirely the superior power of the universal Dharma.
