Fourth, the Buddha's appearance in the world: the Tathāgata's manifestation now is entirely based on the dust mote lacking intrinsic nature. The pratītyasamutpāda of the dharmadhātu, bodhi, and nirvāṇa constitute the Tathāgata's body. This body pervades the three realms of existence; therefore, in all lands, all sentient beings, all things and events, all pratītyasamutpāda, all karmic retributions, all dust motes and hairs, it is manifested in each and every one. The above meanings, bodhi, nirvāṇa, and so forth, constitute the Buddha's appearance in the world. If in one place one does not fully comprehend this, then one does not become a buddha, nor does one appear. Why is this? Because wherever one does not comprehend the dust mote, there is still ignorance; therefore one does not become a buddha, nor does one appear. It is fully detailed as in the text of the "Nature-Origination Chapter"; contemplate it.
