Eighth, "understanding reflections in a mirror": the large and small characteristics of a dust mote merely appear as if they exist, but ultimately cannot be apprehended; therefore, know that the dust mote is hollow and non-existent, like an image in a mirror. As a sūtra says: "Contemplate all phenomena as lightning, or as the moon in water and images in a mirror, seeming to exist yet not existing, because they cannot be apprehended." Because the dust mote is quiescently empty, it does not obstruct provisional marks being vivid; within the dharmadhātu, the two meanings of provisional and real are merely like reflections.
