大記云：不自在者，自已空義也。即生不生、不生生者含有二意：一生不生者，無生佛法之證分也。不生生者，緣起分也。二就緣起分，不生者，緣起觀無力無生故。生者，因緣觀有力有生故。龍樹云「因緣所生法」等者，有二釋：一云：初三句同教，後一句別教也。一云：即是空者緣起觀，是假名者因緣觀，中道義者性起觀也。

The Great Record states: 'Not autonomous' means the sense that it is inherently empty. 'That which is produced is unproduced; the unproduced is produced' contains two meanings: First, 'the produced is unproduced' is the realization aspect of the unborn Buddha-dharma. 'The unproduced is produced' is the aspect of pratītyasamutpāda. Second, regarding the aspect of pratītyasamutpāda: 'unproduced' is because the contemplation of pratītyasamutpāda is powerless and without production. 'Produced' is because the contemplation of causes and conditions is efficacious and has production. Regarding Nāgārjuna's statement, 'Dharmas produced by causes and conditions', etc., there are two explanations: One says: The first three lines are the shared teaching, and the last line is the distinct teaching. Another says: 'That is emptiness' is the contemplation of pratītyasamutpāda; 'that is conventional designation' is the contemplation of causes and conditions; 'the meaning of the Middle Way' is the contemplation of nature manifestation.
