二、外俗書紀（謂凡有紀傳，皆存外有，上則順天奉地，匡國化民；中則孝事父母，立身行道；下則營衛六府，五行備附。據事以求，莫非身計，縱閑放林澤，無非養生，故名外書）。

Second, external mundane records (referring to all annals and biographies, which all attend to external existence: above, complying with Heaven and revering Earth, rectifying the state and transforming the people; in the middle, serving parents with filial piety, establishing oneself and practicing the Way; below, managing and defending the six viscera, with the five elements fully provided. If sought on the basis of affairs, none is not a scheme for the self; even if one lives at leisure in forests and marshes, none is not for nourishing life; therefore they are called external texts).
