今此之述本，被後進之初心；曲授稱功體，非前良之早慮。固須叮嚀指掌，鋪覼相狀，識三寶有數種之權謀，解七眾無貳師之希向。言唯質露，意在修行，想有識者知，無繁於翰墨。故佛言：「吾言不在綺飾，令人受解為要。」敢附斯轍，筆記序云：

The original intention of this present composition is to assist the initial mindset of later learners; it provides detailed guidance in naming the substance of merits, which is not what earlier worthies needed to ponder beforehand. One must indeed take pains to point out clearly and lay out the characteristics, knowing that the Three Jewels possess several kinds of expedient devices, and understanding that the seven assemblies have no second teacher to aspire toward. The words are only plain and direct, and the intention lies in cultivation and practice; I trust that discerning persons will recognize this without needing elaborate literary embellishment. Thus the Buddha said: "My words do not reside in fancy ornaments; causing people to receive and understand is paramount." Daring to follow this track, I write down this preface:
