或矜高自舉，忌他名望，勤苦身心，恨恚陵物，外雖從稅，內實騰驤。或依時位列，相從禮謁，目睞同徒，妄生嫌怪。見有接聲承拜者，言其如碓上下；見有威容細行者，言其造事詐作；見有在地蹣跚者，言其大無筋骨；見有音聲濁鈍者，言其大不生善。如斯眾也，通悉結收，業網所拘，報增鬼錄。

Or, full of conceit and elevating oneself, one is jealous of the reputation of others; wearying body and mind, one harbors resentful anger to humiliate others, outwardly complying on the surface, but inwardly galloping with arrogance. Or, lining up according to time and rank to join in paying homage, one glances at one's fellows and irrationally conceives disdain and disapproval. Seeing someone bowing in rhythm with the chanting, one says they are like a pestle going up and down; seeing someone with dignified manner and meticulous conduct, one says they are acting out of contrived pretense; seeing someone limping or stumbling on the ground, one says they utterly lack bone and sinew; seeing someone whose voice is muddy and dull, one says they are utterly incapable of producing wholesome roots. Such people as these are all bound up together, caught in the net of karma, and their retribution increases their enrollment among the ghosts.
