四、製造。法色同袈裟。《十誦》：「新者，二重；故者，四重。不得單作。」《鼻奈耶》云：「應安緣。」《五分》：「須揲四角。」《四分》：「作新者，須以故物縱廣一搩手揲之。（亦准佛一搩，方二尺也。不揲入手，犯捨墮罪。若得已成新者，並財體一經身用，則不須揲。）」又不得「不截，通取增量」，此跋闍妄法。

Fourth, manufacture. Its Dharma colour is the same as the kāṣāya. The Sarvāstivāda-vinaya: "A new one is two layers; an old one is four layers. It must not be made single-layered." The Vinaya says: "A border should be attached." The Pañcavargika-vinaya: "One must patch the four corners." The Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: "When making a new one, one must patch it with a piece of old cloth one span in length and breadth. (Also following one Buddha-span, two chi square. If one takes possession of it without patching, one commits a naiḥsargika-prāyaścittika offence. If one obtains one that is already made new, or if the fabric itself has already been worn once on the body, then it does not need patching.)" Furthermore, one must not "fail to cut it and wholly adopt the increased measure"; this is the false practice of the Vajjī monks.
