3.37

「復有眾生，或顛或癡、或狂或騃，不別好醜。何罪所致？」佛言：「以前世時飲酒醉亂，犯三十六失，後得癡身，猶如醉人不別尊卑。以是惡業故獲斯罪。」

"There are sentient beings who are epileptic, idiotic, raving mad, or dull-witted, unable to distinguish good from bad. What sin has caused this?" The Buddha said: "In former lives, they drank alcohol and were wildly intoxicated, committing thirty-six transgressions, and later received an idiotic body, just like a drunkard unable to distinguish the honorable from the lowly. Due to this evil karma, they receive this retribution of sin."
