We, [so-and-so] and others, once again with utmost sincerity prostrate with our five limbs touching the ground. Furthermore, since beginningless time down to the present day, based on body, speech, and mind, we have acted unequally: knowing only our own bodies and not the bodies of others; knowing only our own suffering and not the suffering of others; knowing only that we seek peace and happiness and not that others seek peace and happiness; knowing only that we seek liberation and not that others also seek liberation; knowing only our own family and dependents and not that others also have dependents; knowing only that a single itch or pain in our own bodies is unbearable, while flogging and beating the bodies of others, constantly fearing that their bitter agony is not deep enough; knowing only to fear the small sufferings of our present bodies, without knowing to fear that by producing all evil karmas, upon casting off our bodies we must fall into the hells to endure all manners of suffering within them; even failing to know that the hungry ghost destiny, animal destiny, asura destiny, human destiny, and deva destiny have various sufferings. Because of inequality, we have given rise to the thought of self and other and engendered notions of enemies and loved ones, so that enmity and retribution pervade the six destinies. Sins such as these are limitless and boundless; today we repent, praying to eradicate and extinguish them.
