"There are sentient beings who are constantly scorched and roasted by hell wardens, their bodies drenched with molten iron and pierced with iron nails. Once the nailing is done, fire spontaneously blazes up and burns their bodies until they are completely charred and festering. What sin has caused this?" The Buddha said: "In former lives, they served as acupuncturists, harming people's bodies without curing their illnesses, deceiving others to obtain their goods and causing them pain and distress. Thus they receive this retribution of sin."
