If one hears the phrase "immeasurable," the pattern is also like this: If one hears "immeasurable," one may take the expedient paths of the two vehicles, the four truths, the sixteen truths, and so forth, as "immeasurable." Or, upon hearing "immeasurable," one may take it that the two vehicles use it only to subdue afflictions for themselves and cannot convert others, while bodhisattvas use this immeasurable both to eliminate afflictions for themselves and to convert others. Or, upon hearing "immeasurable," one may say that the two vehicles have no share in it, and it pertains only to bodhisattvas: bodhisattvas use it to sever the dust-and-sand [delusions] within the realms, and also subdue the dust-and-sand [delusions] beyond the realms. Or, upon hearing "immeasurable," one may say that the two vehicles have no share in it, and it pertains only to bodhisattvas: bodhisattvas use it to sever the dust-and-sand [delusions] both within and beyond the realms, and also subdue avidyā. Or, upon hearing "immeasurable," one may say that it pertains only to bodhisattvas: bodhisattvas use it to subdue and sever avidyā.
