A sūtra says: 'For the sake of all sentient beings, [the Buddhas] open the knowledge and vision of the Buddha.' If there were no middle realm, knowledge would have nothing to know and the eye would have nothing to see; one should know that there must be the realm of the Buddha eye. A sūtra says: 'Who in the world possesses the true deva eye? It sees all Buddha-lands without a dual characteristic.' If there were no conventional realm, this eye should not see the Buddha-lands. A sūtra says: 'The deva eye opens up, and the wisdom eye sees the true.' Hence one knows there must be the realm of the wisdom eye. The principle of these three truths is inconceivable and has no fixed nature; in truth it cannot be spoken. If it is expounded for conditions, it does not exceed three intentions: first, expounding in accord with [sentient beings'] sentiments, which is speaking in accord with the intentions of others; second, expounding in accord with sentiments and knowledge, which is speaking in accord with both one's own and others' intentions; third, expounding in accord with knowledge, which is speaking in accord with one's own intention.
