二、人事者，慶弔俯仰，低昂造聘，此往彼來，來往不絕；況復眾人交絡，擾攘追尋？夫違親離師，本求要道；更結三州，還敦五郡，意欲何之？倒裳索領，鑽火求水，非所應也。

Second, social affairs: congratulations and condolences, bowing and prostrating, bustling visits, going here and coming there in an endless stream; how much more so when crowds intermingle in clamorous pursuit! Now, leaving family and departing from teachers was originally to seek the essential Path; if one further forms ties in three prefectures and restores intimacies in five commanderies, what does one intend? This is like searching for the collar by turning the skirt upside down, or drilling for fire to seek water—it is not appropriate.
