5.14

見、慢既靜，先世小習，因靜而生。身子捨眼，即其事也。《大品》云：「恒沙菩薩發大心，若一若二入菩薩位，多墮二乘。」故次慢說二乘。

Once views and pride are stilled, lesser habits from previous lifetimes arise by virtue of this stillness. Śāriputra's giving away his eyes was just such a case. The Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra says: "Though bodhisattvas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges produce the great aspiration, only one or two enter the bodhisattva rank; most fall into the two vehicles." Therefore, following pride, the two vehicles are expounded.
